Baseball is John Day's most popular spectator sport, along with football and basketball. One of the most popular high school competitions is the high school tournaments, played in the spring among several of the state's best teams. The spring tournaments, meanwhile, invites 32 schools that had the best records at all classifiactions during the spring season of the year before.
The tournaments held during spring break, began in the mid 1980s, During the tenure reign of Oregon High School Hall of Fame Coach Art Thunnell. There've been many moving and memorable moments in the event's history. One poignant practice is for players of the visiting teams to gather the dirt near their dugout in plastic bags to take home as a souvenir. The end of the spring tourney signals the start of a new school season and we believe these tournament will provide quality competition to prepare your team for a great season.
