Bank Of Eastern Oregon Classic

John Day - 8 Teams from around the state kicked off their season this weekend with blue skies, sunshine, and 60 degree weather. Three 4A schools were featured and La Pine was the big surprise in the tournament. Finishing the tournamnet at 2-1 beating Mac-Hi and Amity. Santiam Christian looked once again tough despite loosing a large group of seniors. The Eagles kicked off their season with a strong start beating Sisters (4A) and Amity (3A). The featured game was the rematch of last years tournament showdown between Grant Union and Santiam Christian. Last year, SC made a late inning comeback to beat the Prospectors and saddled them with their first loss of the season. This ended differently as the Prospectors took revenge beating the Eagles 5-3. Union and Umpqua Valley Christian were the two 2A teams featured in this year's tournament and both have a lot to be excited about this year. UVC, who made a state championship appearence last year, started the tournament off against the experienced Union Bobcats. The Bobcats came out swinging and beat UVC 11-1. However, UVC came back on Saturday with a different attitude and ended up beating 4A Mac - Hi, and finished off Amity 13-0. All together the tournament was a great success and many good teams were given a chance to work out the pre season kinks. Desptire one short rain delay, The weather and the fields were perfect for some great small school baseball action.

SPRING BREAK TOURNAMENTS 2009

Grant Union's Program numbers increase

In the pre-season meeting held Wednesday Febraury 11, 32 players attended the meeting and are planning on playing baseball for the Prospectors this year. This number is the highest in 3 years and is a good boost for the program's future. Coach Carpenter believes that this rise in intrest is due to the popularity of baseball in Grant County as well as the success that the mens sports teams have had this year. It is the hopes that the numbers in the Grant Union Baseball will continue to rise despite the shrinking enrollment in our student body. Grant Union Baseball is a good program for Grant Union Kids and this year integrity, work ethic, accountability, and a winning approach will be taught to all players in its program.
